May 26, 2010 – New Edition of Design Software Improves Ease of Use and Accessibility

Calgary, Alberta: The 10th floor penthouse at 325 North Wells Street in Chicago will be hosting the latest innovations from Ice Edge Business Solutions, June 14-16, 2010. Ice Edge has improved the look and feel of its design and visualization software ICE. The company is launching a new user interface to make using the parametric software more intuitive. ICE has been updated to better reflect its amazing 3D capabilities. In addition to its fresh new face, the software continues to evolve to more closely reflect how designers think and work, reducing the barriers between idea and reality.

ICEvision®, the company’s visualization web application has been enhanced with a bevy of new features just in time for the big show in Chicago. Recent innovations make navigating easier and social media links have been added, allowing model designers to connect their designs with friends through Facebook and Twitter. Users can now add sound to ICEvision files and a new option will permit modelers to toggle between different rendering styles in ICEvision, varying color, lighting and shading. Memory enhancements allow for the capture of bigger models with more textures. There is improved access for people who have previously experienced difficulty viewing an ICEvision model because its traditional ports were blocked by careful IT departments.

The intelligence built into ICE gives designers the latitude they need to realize their design intentions. They can focus on design instead of worrying about readying plans for audit and manufacturing purposes. Come by the penthouse to learn more about design possibilities with ICE and a more sustainable way to design, market and deliver interior solutions.

Ice Edge Business Solutions produces software called ICE, a patented technology written in Java that uses video game technology for design and manufacturing purposes. ICE is the only technology that goes from development through to sales, manufacturing and project delivery, making it unique in the design and manufacturing sectors.

Google SketchUp meets ICEvision - PDF

ICEvision software, created by Ice Edge Business Solutions, now allows Google SketchUp users to turn their models into interactive, real-time, fly-through experiences. Google SketchUp Pro is a downloadable software program used to create 3D models of any object, building, structure or interior. It is a robust professional version of the free SketchUp software being used by novices around the world. ICEvision takes that experience to the next level. Through patented use of video game technology, ICEvision dynamically renders the design in 3D - revealing the color, shading, reflectivity and transparency aspects of a design in a way SketchUp simply cannot. With ICEvision, the model creator implements guided tours with posted notes to focus on one particular area or allows the recipient to independently fly through the space and see all the corners, angles and views they wish. The graphical experience is vivid, full of light, shadow and texture to give the viewer a realistic, interactive tour. The model can be securely posted to the Web for sharing or clients can view it on their iPhone, free of charge.

ICEvision puts the viewer right inside the design changing the user’s viewpoint instead of re-positioning the model in the design space. With millions of SketchUp users out there, and a variety SketchUp models available online for download, the ICE custom library got infinitely larger. Register for a free trial of ICEvision available until October 31. There is no software to install. Users go to www.ice-edge.com and click on the FREE TRIAL area.

ICE software was first developed in 2004 with consultation from Java inventor and Sun Microsystems CTO James Gosling. Ice Edge Business Solutions started up as a company in 2006. The intelligent, interactive 3D software with patented videogame technology introduces a new level of collaboration, specification, error elimination and manufacturing capabilities.

For design professionals this is a superior way to communicate, collaborate and get faster sign-offs from informed, empowered clients. An architect in Virginia used ICEvision to show his client office space in a 450-acre mixed-use project that includes retail, residential, an amusement park and baseball stadium. “He was like a twelve-year-old kid,” says Jorge del Cid of CMSS Architects in Virginia. “When I sent him the ICEvision model he immediately went into his building and up to his office to see what the view would be like for the baseball games.” Mr. del Cid feels the tools he used before made his clients simply being content and with ICEvision they are truly happy.

Recently named one of the ’29 Great Solutions’ for architects and engineers by Building Design+Construction magazine, starting September 24th ICEvision is available for a 30-day free trial. There is no software to install. Users go to www.ice-edge.com and click on the FREE TRIAL area. They can create and publish their new 3D interactive models created in Google SketchUp Pro, Revit or AutoCAD 3D and get a full understanding of the experience.

August 19th | ICEvision Named Top Solution - PDF

The editors of Building Design+Construction named ICEvision as one of their “29 Great Solutions” to solve some of the most complex problems and issues facing Building Teams today.

“Users explore Revit or AutoCAD 3D models in a dynamically rendered 3D viewer on a computer, smartphone, or other mobile device. The ICEvision viewer is a full exploratory environment of a 3D model that lets you walk through and visualize an entire project in detail rendered directly from AutoCAD or Revit. Publishers can also associate bookmarks and annotations of their models to give guided tours to end users. ICEvision is platform neutral. The ICEvision viewer for Web and e-mail sharing is available as a free download. ICEvision's iPhone plug-in helps you check models for accuracy directly from your jobsite.”

June 12th – 14th | NeoCon World's Trade Fair

Merchandise Mart, Chicago

The ICE Booth in the Merchandise Mart was standing room only. And when people wanted more… they just sat on the floor! Here is a note we received from contributing writers for www.plinthandchintz.com:

"Thanks again for giving us great demo of ICE. Our editor is still kicking herself over all the time she could have saved if she'd had ICE five years ago when she was drowning in CAD drafts.

It's such a fantastic product that we're sure many of our readers would actually worship!

In our inaugural issue we did a NeoCon podcast about products that grabbed our attention - and ICE was one of our Favorite 8!"

May 16th – 19th | JavaOne

San Francisco, Moscone Ctr.

The Moscone Center was packed full of Java experts at the 7th Annual JavaOne Conference. The ICE booth was quite a draw for attendees. "Even the Java guys are saying it's nice to see a large platform here," said ICE marketing head Dale Sawyer, "As opposed to the smaller applications at most booths."

After ICE received a mention from James Gosling, the father of Java, at the annual "Fireside Chat" with the top brass of Sun Microsystems, even more people found their way to the very popular booth. "We would have needed a bigger crew and a bigger booth if it was any busier," said Barrie Loberg, ICE inventor.

One visitor remarked that the only thing better were the slot car races designed by James Gosling himself.
